Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh spinach, organic
  • 4-5 fresh strawberries*, organic (or frozen)
  • 1 small green Granny Smith apple, organic (or any other apple of choice)
  • ½ tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 2 cups coconut water

Equipment

  • blender
  • cutting board
  • knife
  • bowls
  • measuring spoons and cups
  • straws (optional)
  • glasses or mason jar mug (any glass of your choice)

Instructions

Prep

  • Wash the spinach, and set aside. Wash strawberries, cut the top stems off and cut into bite-size pieces, and set aside. If using frozen just place it in a bowl and set it aside.
  • Wash the apple, cut it into bite-size pieces, and set aside. If not using organic, remove the skin before cutting.
  • Wash the lemon well, roll on the cutting board a couple of times with your palm. This is a great trick to get extra juice. Cut in half, squeeze into a bowl, and set aside.

Smoothie Time

  • Add fruits, lemon juice, and coconut water into the blender and whirl it up until it is nice and smooth. Now it's time to add the spinach and give it another whirl. Continue blending until it's nice and smooth, and you're done! Pour into your fave glass and enjoy!

Notes

NOTE: This smoothie is on the tart side (my personal preference), but if you like things on the sweeter side, feel free to add a little drizzle of honey or maple syrup. Alternately, you could cut down the lemon and/or use a sweeter variety of apples like Gala or Ambrosia, as Granny Smiths are naturally tart.
* Can substitute the strawberries with raspberries! Just please keep in mind if using raspberries you may want to pair with a sweeter apple variety as suggested above, to balance out the tartness of the raspberries.
TIP: After using the lemon, don't throw out the rind just yet, it can be used to clean your sink and make it look shiny and new!
STORAGE: Your smoothie can be stored in a glass jug or mason glass mug for a day in the fridge, but I highly recommend consuming it within a couple of hours to reap the full benefits of the ingredients. Fresh is always best.
